This is my brain on drugs, the pharma of the information age. I pop the headlines of RSS feeds like they were vitamin pills, ever increasing the trivial knowledge of the immediate minute. I am connected to an blogosphere whose borders are beyond comprehension, a recipient of broadcasts and a contributor of edited syntax. You know my mood from the emoticon I display.
This work is a representation of our brain processing the information of the high speed technological field we place ourselves in daily through the use of digital devices. We have become superfluously cybernetic through the attachment of electronic gadgetry on our physical form. One can visualize the perceptual shifts mankind is undergoing through the constant exposure and manipulation of screen based technologies by removing oneself from the apparatus and observing the condition of man. Perhaps when we are in control of these devices, we seldom contemplate the inner workings, the process of creation, or the distortion of our perceptual awareness due to the constant connectivity.
The form this work takes is of an anatomical specimen of a brain that is subject to the perpetual connectivity to the Internet. Circuitry is embedded within the brain to reference the upgrade culture we take part in. The future of this project is a performance where a realistic cybernetic brain via prosthetic makeup notifies me of online social messaging as I walk around.
